O microblog Twitter abriu nesta quarta-feira um serviço que permite que voluntários ajudem na tradução do site para o português. "Há alguns meses nós lançamos a Central de Tradução do Twitter, que permite a contribuição dos usuários na tradução do nosso site e outros projetos. Se você fala Português do Brasil, você pode participar desta comunidade mundial de tradutores e nos ajudar a tornar o Twitter cada vez mais internacional", diz o comunicado oficial do Twitter, publicado no blog da companhia.
Os planos de traduzir o site para o português haviam sido anunciados em outubro de 2010 pela responsável pelo suporte técnico e planos de internacionalização do Twitter, Laura Gõmez. "Os brasileiros produzem 16% de todas as mensagens publicadas no site", disse Laura, em entrevista ao jornal argentino "La Nacion".
"O Brasil é o maior mercado internacional do Twitter, menor apenas que os Estados Unidos", afirmou Laura. De acordo com a executiva, um em cada 5 novos integrantes da rede social vem da América Latina, e a região teve crescimento de 420% no número de usuários do site entre abril e outubro de 2010.
